The steep road that branches off the main coastal road leads to Donja Klada, an old fishing village at the foot of Mount Velebit and 30 minutes’ drive from Senj. In the hinterland of Klada, hikers can climb the peak of Zavižan (1,594 m) on Mount Velebit, which hosts the oldest high-elevation weather station in Croatia, a mountain hut, and the Velebit Botanical Garden.
